GQ Santana is a Medicine Hat Paint,
which is thought to be by Native
Americans, a sacred horse that posses
magical powers. When rode into battle by
the chiefs, the magical powers would
prevent harm from coming to those that
rode them. In the identification of
different types of paints horses it has
been published that the Medicine Hat
Paint occurs once in ten thousand in the
paint horse breed. Somewhat like the
“Sacred White Buffalo” who only occurs
once in three million births, GQ Santana
a cropout quarter horse, out of two
sorrel parents, is a rarity of nature
that is estimated in the quarter horse
breed to occur greater than once in a
million. They are, in reality, the
maximum expression of the sabino gene.
What does this mean to you as a breeder?
As a general rule the more white a
sabino has, the more likely they are to
produce color in their offspring,
especially when bred to another sabino.
Unknown to most people, the majority of
quarter horse cropouts are sabino’s.
Records show that maximum sabino’s can
produce colored foals anywhere from 59%
to 95% of the time. Studies show that
sabino’s have not been found to carry
the lethal white gene. GQ Santana has
been tested negative for OWLS by the
University of California, Davis. He will
not sire a lethal white. Of the first
six foals Santana sired, five had
characteristics of a sabino.
GQ
Santana a 2000 model stallion stands
16.1 hands tall and weighs over 1400+
pounds. He has been tested NH for HYPP.
Unlike a lot of Medicine Hat Paints, GQ
Santana has dark eyes. Like his
grandsire Mister GQ, who was a Congress
Champion rider before he was a World
Champion halter horse, GQ Santana is an
excellent mover. With the elimination of
the AQHA excessive white rule GQ Santana
has been registered with the American
Quarter Horse Association since 2004. He
was originally registered with the
American Paint Horse Association where
he holds a title of Reserve World
Champion, and his third registry is with
the Pinto Horse Association. GQ Santana
will be futurity eligible with several
futurities in 2007, as well as, APHA
Breeders Trust and AQHA Incentive
Funded. GQ Santana has a world class
pedigree to draw upon. Double bred Mr.
Conclusion and triple bred Conclusive,
his pedigree sounds like a hall of fame
of World Champions with GQ Eclipse,
Mister GQ, Page Impressive, Sonnys
Securitee, Sonny Go Te, Te N Te, Ima
Cool Skip, Susie Impressive, and hall of
fame Sonny Dee Bar to name a few. Mr.
Conclusion by Conclusive is the all time
leading World Champion producing AQHA
sire with 66 open and 91 amateur World
Champions to his credit, almost three
times as many as his nearest competitor.
With
limited foal crops GQ Santana is already
proving himself as an up and coming
sire. In 2005 he was in and out of the
APHA top 20 leading sires list with 2
crops to his credit. As of 11/16/06 he
was list number six on the APHA Leading
Sires List with the least amount of
foals sired. GQ Santana is a sire of a
World Champion, multiple APHA top 5’s,
multiple APHA top 10’s, APHA Congress
and Reserve Congress Champions, PtHA
Congress Champion,As well as, an AQHA
Grand Champion! He is the sire of
multiple futurity winners from coast to
coast. These include the Land Rush 2005
and 2006, Oklahoma Pinto, TOVO, Nebraska
Paint and Pinto, South Carolina
Palmetto, Southern Colorado 2005 and
2006, Wisconsin, and Arizona. His get
also have several circuit championships
over the past couple of years.
GQ
Santana is the main herd sire of Higbee
Farms, a small family owned farm located
in Dewey, Ok. Higbee Farms was
established in 1956 by George L. Higbee,
a graduate of Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma
State University) with a degree in
Animal Husbandry. There he operated a
dairy and bred Holstein cows and
maintained production records which far
exceeded the national average for that
era. After his death, his son David and
grandson Ryan decided they wanted to
utilize the farm, but with a major
change we have switched to AQHA and APHA
Halter Horses which the whole family
could enjoy. Our passion is the overo
paint horse and our mission is to
produce World Class dual registered
Halter Horses. Over the past few years
we have gathered a small band of World
Class broodmares which include Daughters
and granddaughters of the Halter Horse
Industries top stallions such as, Page
Impressive, Sonny Dee Bar, Temon, Te N
Te, Mister GQ, Ima Cool Skip, Skippa
Lindy Streak, and Cluition. We usually
have top quality prospects for your
consideration.
GQ
Santana will stand the 2007 breeding
season just a couple of mile down the
road at Dewey Smith Quarter Horses. We
are very excited to have Santana so
close to home where we can go see him
anytime. We encourage you to go by and
see the Smith’s new World Class show and
breeding facilities and come by and see
us at Higbee Farms. You can also visit
us at

your consideration of GQ Santana and
Higbee Farms. We hope that we will see
